Mr. & Mrs. Stephanie & Mason Landon

September 24, 2016

Stephanie and I have been friends since Freshman year of high school. I was so excited when she asked me to help plan her and her husband Mason’s wedding! The ladies all started off the big day in comfy workout clothing because that is one of couple’s strongest passions- fitness! Hair & Makeup was done by Landon Blow and Jenny Todd.

The weather turned out perfect for their big day and Crista Ballard Photography did a great job capturing all the moments. The first look was on the bridge outside the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown.  The look on Mason’s face when he saw Steph was priceless… their love is strong!

Their parents shared in the love and this picture is explains it all. Two great families being united through this marriage.

The ceremony was at Oak Hills Baptist Church and the reception followed at Willow Run. The florals were designed by Elaborations by Joyce Naber. Our friends at Simply Devine Wedding and Events provided us with the rental items. Also, thank you Savvy Chair Covers! It was a beautiful wedding with bold colors and so many personal touches.

DJ Eran from DJ Jer Company emceed and lead the dance! The cake was done by Janet Kennedy. Their food prepared by Chef Jeni was so delicious and unique. They opted for a buffet of their favorite foods featuring a mini taco bar, mac n’ cheese bar & mini burger sliders! A popcorn bar from Poppy’s Popcorn, doughnuts from Fly Boy & cupcakes from Hy-Vee completed the dessert bar.

Steph- we were a stunning bride! Thank you for choosing myself & Serendipitous to help with your big day! Mason- Thank you for your service to our country and for allowing me to be apart of your big day. It was so great to get to know you and all of your friends that came from many states! Cheers to FOREVER!

The Magician Behind the Matrimony

The Magician Behind the Matrimony

Hey guys! It’s Ray here from Serendipitous Events! This past weekend I got the opportunity to help out with my first wedding as an intern with everyone’s favorite planner; Loghin Welch and let me tell you… I heavily underestimated everything a planner does on the day of a wedding. WOWZA.

I’ve been planning my wedding (just like every other little girl) since I could talk. But until I was in high school, I had never even heard of a “wedding planner” before and when I mentioned it to anyone, I was always told they were “unnecessary” or, “You can just do all of that yourself. It’s cheaper.” Maybe some of you feel the same way, but I’m telling you now I believe everyone who wants a stress-free, gorgeous wedding day NEEDS A PLANNER. Still not convinced? Well good because we are just getting started here… 😉

The wedding I helped with this past weekend was nothing short of care-free and happy. There wasn’t a moment I didn’t see the bride smiling and glowing (as every bride should be on their wedding day) and I attribute a lot of that to having a planner. Any time there was a question, Loghin was the woman with the answer. The bride didn’t have to worry about a thing because no one was jumping all over her with little questions every five minutes. Any time there was a little issue or even just the smallest question, the bride was never bothered with it. Instead she got to truly enjoy her day, sit back and just take it all in. After all, it is the happiest day of a girl’s life. She should be able to enjoy it as such!

Another thing I have noticed at weddings in the past is that often the mother of the bride/groom tends to be running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off; something that wouldn’t have to happen with a planner! I noticed during the wedding this weekend both mothers were enjoying the day/night and they looked so happy. They weren’t trying to direct people or making sure everything was going smoothly because they simply knew it was. I personally want my mother and mother-in-law to be able to be that relaxed and able to enjoy the day to the full extent someday at my own wedding.

Something else I realized too is that the vendors at the wedding were all fantastic, and Loghin interacted with them all like family. If you want to work with trustworthy vendors who provide quality work, it’s so important to work with a planner who knows the field; someone who knows who’s the best or who’s a flop. After all, it’s literally Loghin’s job as a planner to know these things. Doesn’t it make so much more sense to go to someone who really knows their stuff, than to have to start from scratch and hope for the best on the day of? That sounds like a potential headache waiting to happen. YIKES.

So you’re probably a pretty busy person, right? We all have our junk that ties up our days. It’s hard to catch a minute. I mean half the time I make a coffee in the morning and realize at 6:30 when I get home that evening that yes, that coffee is still there completely untouched and freezing cold because LIFE GETS FULL, and it’s easy to forget even the smallest things. We’re all rushing from work to the gym to Target, trying to remember to shovel a few bites of a food in now and then, and maybe get a wink of sleep if we aren’t cramming for an exam or waking up in the middle of the night to a screaming baby. Whatever your “busy” is, can you imagine having to plan the biggest day of your life on top of that?! Doesn’t it make more sense to go to a person who’s profession literally is to do just that?! I certainly think so!

Again, I really never understood just how much a planner does “the day of” until I was fully immersed in it. It was amazing watching Loghin work. People trusted her, looked to her for answers, and she was always there to go the extra mile to make the day the best it could be. That’s something everyone needs at their wedding. One moment Loghin was laughing and talking with the family, and they next she was bussing tables, and not because it was her job but because at Serendipitous we are committed to going above the expected. A wedding planner is so much more than just a “planner.” Loghin was a stylist, a director, a therapist, a chauffeur, and so much more… We want the bride and groom to know that they can just let loose and have a good time because everything is under control from our side. Our goal is to give you the opportunity to be 100% present for your wedding. It’s YOUR day; be all there for it. 🙂

Meadow Barn at Country Orchards

Meadow Barn at Country Orchards LIVE Styled Shoot

September 7, 2016

Wow! is all we can say about this venue just south of Sioux Falls. Everything from the chandeliers, groom’s loft and bridal suite to the barn wood tables, ceremony space and bonfire pit. It is simply stunning! When we were asked to help with the Meadow Barn’s grand opening, we couldn’t resist. We were excited to present a live styled shoot to the guests during the grand opening as well!

We had a beautiful couple to work with. Their attire came from The Bridal Gallery and the bride’s hair and makeup was done by Lacey Mae.

Anne from The Photography Shoppe photographed this day perfectly! The florals were created by Bella Rosa and Brekan Designs designed the invitations/menus. Our team did all the decorating and styling. Ideal Wedding & Events partnered with us to provide the rentals.

The barn provides awesome barn wood tables and round tables that are fun to work with. We styled different looks to show how well these designs translate into the barn. Of course, a sweetheart table and naked cake from The Cake Lady completed the look!

We look forward to working with Greg, Katie and their staff for many seasons to come. Make sure to check out the Meadow Barn for your next event!

Mr. & Mrs. Corey & Kelli Vasquez

September 3, 2016

The first wedding ever at the Meadow Barn at Country Orchards AND a taco food truck?! Yes, that happened! This couple was so fun to work with because they wanted their big day to be unique and revolve around everything they love as a couple.

Hair and makeup was done by Shelon Artistry in the barn’s amazing bridal suite. The guys got ready in the groom’s loft after a workout at Corey’s gym- Coast 2 Coast Fitness.

The couple’s son, Lux Roman, stole the show as a ring bearer. Every detail of the bridal party from flower crowns to bow ties was a complete hit. The meadow was the perfect place to get married as they were surrounded by an apple orchard and their loved ones.

Kelli & Corey opted for a non-traditional bridal party. Corey’s sister completed the groom’s side as the “Best Lady” and Kelli’s brother was by her side as the “Man of Honor.”

The florals were designed by Elaborations by Joyce Naber. The delicious red velvet naked cake was done by Taylor’d Cakes and the DJ was Jammin’ Jay Williams.

This fiesta wedding was so fun to plan because of all the unique and special details that went into making it the couple’s perfect day. Crista Ballard Photography did an amazing job capturing all of the details of the day. Thank you so much for choosing Serendipitous Events, Kelli & Corey!

Mr. & Mrs. Kyle & Kelsey Eckert

Kyle & Kelsey Eckert

This wedding was special for many reasons. I worked with the couple planning their wedding in Sioux Falls while they lived in Georgia! Only visiting Sioux Falls twice during their planning meant that our team was in charge of every detail- big & small! It was a beautiful day and we are so happy they used Serendipitous. The photography is done by Lauren at Picturesque.

The couple’s ceremony and reception took place at the Hilton Garden Inn, Downtown Sioux Falls. The soft ivory colors along with pops of mint and blush were the perfect combination for this June wedding. The gorgeous florals were designed by The Flower Mill. The chairs were styled by Savvy Chair Covers.

The cake was made by Chef April and served to the guests. The overlays and chargers were from Simply Devine. DJ Matt Gappa from DJ Jer provided the music and lighting services to complete the ceremony & head table look. Invites were designed by Molly Meester Designs.

Shelon Artistry and Beauty by Blow did an amazing job with the bridal party’s hair and makeup.

Only able to see the couple a few times a year, the bridal party was ready for some fun with the newlyweds! Stellar Limousine chauffeured the wedding party around Downtown Sioux Falls while guests enjoyed cocktail hour at the Hilton.

June 25, 2016 was a perfect day. I had a lot of fun getting to know Kyle and Kelsey. Every detail and vendor helped make this a special wedding celebration.

Blue Haven Barn Styled Shoot

Beautiful Barn, Superb Vendors

When I was asked to participate in the first ever styled shoot at Blue Haven Barn, I jumped on board immediately! This new event venue, located just west of Sioux Falls, is exceptional. I was excited to be able to put my creativity to work!

Nicole with Nicole Marie Photography and Amanda at Blue Haven Barn had started the idea of the shoot and I was happy to partner with them.

First, we needed a couple to model as our bride and groom. Megan, our intern, and her fiance Brock were a perfect choice.

We had some of the best vendors in the area making sure Megan & Brock looked their best for the shoot. Jodi Hunter with Bombshell Beauty did an amazing job with Megan’s custom airbrush makeup. Biz with Vanessen’s Hair Design paired with Jodi to complete Megan’s look by giving her a gorgeous up-do in Blue Haven’s bridal suite. The tux and dress were provided by the Bridal Gallery… the perfect pair. ❤

While the magic was happening upstairs in the bride & groom suites, I was busy working with Prairie Lane Vintage Rentals, Ideal Wedding & Events, Molly Meester Designs, Flower Mill and The Cake Lady to design an array different table settings. Blue Haven provides silver chiavari chairs and gray barn wood tables with their rentals which adds a special touch.

The vintage silver pieces, place settings and furniture was provided by Prairie Lane. The napkins, glass chargers and champagne flutes were brought in by Ideal Wedding & Events. The flowers were designed by The Flower Mill and the paper products were designed by Molly Meester Designs. Anna, The Cake Lady, provided us with a beautiful naked cake complete with floral. (It tasted delicious, too!)

The icing on the cake was a visit by Vintage Occasions Limo! They brought a vintage limo to the shoot and the photos are STUNNING.

The dark night sky was the perfect photo opt for some romantic photos to end the evening. Prairie Lane’s vintage love seats and church pews made for a special add on!

10 Reasons to Hire a Planner

Why you should consider a wedding planner

As a wedding planner, I’ve seen and read SO many different blog and Pinterest posts about hiring a planner and what you NEED to do at your wedding. In reality, it is YOUR big day. If you want pizza instead of a sit down meal or a first look before the ceremony instead of a traditional first look down the aisle, then do it! After all it is your big day… And this is why I love my job! Decisions and ideas about “spicing” up your wedding and making it truly represent you as a couple are my favorite!

Of course as a planner myself, I would never tell a bride that they have to hire a planner if they want their wedding to run smoothly because it may not be for every couple and that is totally fine! However, I truly believe in the value of hiring a professional wedding planner for every couple!

Keep an open mind as I tell you some reasons why…

1. Its YOUR wedding day, you should be 100% present!

Your wedding day happens one day out of your whole life. Invest in a professional who can make sure you are freed from every responsibility except being fully present and taking in every moment of your big day. You will invest so much time and energy prepping for your wedding, so why not enjoy it?!

2. Your friends and family are (likely) not an event professional

This topic should be the most valuable because as a bride you should want your friends and family fully engaged in the day and not “working.” Your friends and family play a HUGE role during the wedding planning process, you should want them to enjoy themselves..

  • Personally, I think the most important role of the friends and family is to be an active witness of the marriage. Hiring a day-of wedding planner will let them be free of stress so they enjoy the day, too.
  • Your moms, aunts and friends should not have to run around all morning decorating and setting up, they should be by your side drinking coffee and getting pampered after all the help they have given you throughout the months prior.
  • A professional wedding planner knows how to manage an event and be the point of contact for all vendors. You want someone who is a professional to decorate and take on all the large AND small tasks that occur during your wedding day.

3. You want to hire the best vendors for your style and budget

Not only will your planner help with your decision processes, they will also make sure the person you choose to DJ, caterer, etc. fits your style, personality AND budget! After you book all of your vendors, your planner will take the stress away by asking the little questions and working with your vendors to make sure everything is in sync and ready to go without a hiccup!

4. The event manager at your venue is not your professional wedding planner

Many wedding venues say that they include a “wedding planner” or “event manager” in their contract. Typically, this is just the bride and groom’s main point of contact for all venue related questions and the person on staff day of. This person does not set up your decor, work with all your vendors, meet with your other professionals or making sure your wants fit into your budget.

This person will make sure the venue staff is doing what they are listed to do and make sure their is no damage done to the facility day of.

So, even though you may have an event manager at your venue, they do not substitute for a professional and experienced wedding planner.

5. Your budget is critical, make sure you have the right person in charge of it

There is so much that goes into your wedding wants and needs that all cost money. Every couple’s budget is different. Make sure you get a professional wedding planner that can help you prioritize what is most important to you. Likely you have never thrown a big celebration like a wedding, so how you do exactly to know how to budget for a wedding? A professional planner will make sure your budget is just right for the two of you.

6. You already don’t have enough time for yourself, so you don’t have time to plan a wedding

Planning your big day is a lot of work. There are studies that show planning a wedding equals out to be a part time job! You want to make sure you are relaxed and enjoying your engagement and have time for work, hobbies and your social life, too! A planner takes a huge chunk of the planning off of your mind.

A planner’s job is more than just 8-5pm Monday through Friday. We will work with your schedule and make sure the daytime AND nighttime tasks get done to make sure the wedding is a fairytale to you.

7. You want your vision to come to life

Pinterest is a great tool to help you gather your visions and ideas and put them onto a board. Now, how do you make those come to life? A planner has some of the best resources and knowledge when it comes to DIY activities or rental options in your area! Brining your vision to life should be very important to you, make sure you have a professional on your team!

8. You are only one person

Unfortantely, we are human which means we can only be in one place at a time. This is why I HIGHLY recommend at least a day-of planner for EVERY couple.

Many couples have their ceremony and reception in two separate locations which means decor, guest book, gifts, etc. have to be transported and set up before any of the guests arrive at the cocktail hour. This means very strict time limits and limited access to both locations. A professional wedding planner has many events under their belt with juggling multiple locations and time crunches. You will be doing yourself a favor by hiring a day-of planner!

9. A planner will be your best friend throughout the planning process

Bride’s should have one professional they can call or text at anytime to share their new ideas or excitement with. You want most, if not all, of your hard work and details to be a surprise element to your friends and family. A professional wedding planner is a judge-free, unbiased best friend to share your wedding planning fun with. They will guide you in the right direction but never pressure you into anything.

One of the best feelings to me as a planner is knowing that my clients are excited for their big day and stress-free because they have invested in a professional wedding planner to help and guide them.

10. & I promise, your friends and family will thank you!

The most rewarding feeling is going to be at 10p.m. on your wedding day when you can look around and see all of your friends and family that have been celebrating ALL day long because they didn’t have to worry about set up or managing vendors. I promise, it will be worth the money! 🙂

All of these reasons are based on my experiences working with friends and clients that are trying to justify a wedding planner. The best feeling to me is after a wedding when a bride’s mom starts to cry because her daughter was so calm throughout the planning process and day of. Together they got to celebrate together all day long and the mom didn’t have to miss a thing. I want to touch as many brides as I possibly can so whether your budget is $10,000 or $75,000- call me and let’s chat!

Mr. & Mrs. Joel & Rebecca McGregor

September 5, 2015

Joel & Rebecca are a very special couple. Their love story is so great & their love for each other is even greater. We were so thankful that we were chosen to plan their wedding day. Joel & Rebecca wanted all of their guests to be apart of the “bridal party.”

R+J Panorama

Jessica was able to begin their planning but when maternity leave began, Loghin took over for the final details & day of tasks. The outdoor ceremony & reception were both at the Izaak Walton League.

The reception decor was fun & unique. The couple decided to do a kissing menu along with some fun centerpiece overlays. Rebecca had made her beautiful centerpieces to match.

Their ceremony decor was beautiful! Joel and his brother set up a stunning door entrance for guests to enter and his beautiful bride to make her grand entrance through. There was some adorable love quote signage as well to remind everyone the reason for this big day.

Their cake was a beautiful, small circular cake with some fun detail. Candle light, bright flowers and a warm feel completed the room.

We got to work beside some great vendors to make this day perfect for these two amazing people.
