January 20th, 2018 was my very first wedding of the 2018 wedding season & it was also my very own! We had so many amazing vendors that made our wedding day a dream come true. Our venue was located in Sioux City, IA at the Orpheum Theatre. The theatre has so much charm & beauty already & it was PERFECT for my “Beauty & The Beast” themed wedding & those chandeliers.. JAW DROPPING! I can’t thank Allana Rogge with Studiofotografie enough for capturing such detail of our perfect day.

I owe a huge thank you to Miss Loghin for listening to all of my last minute decisions weeks, days, & minutes leading up to the wedding. While I was getting my hair & make-up done by Shelon with Shelon Artistry & spending time with my bridal party, Loghin was busy setting up 300+ rose folded napkins, turning on hundreds of LED candles, setting out our wedding cake made by Delectables along with additional desserts for our guests, putting together a chocolate fountain station provided by Ideal Wedding & Events, & also a hot chocolate station. On top of all of that she was coordinating with vendors, keeping track of the timeline, & guiding family members in the right direction who came from far away & wanted to help with anything they could. Yes, I am a wedding planner & even I needed a day of coordinator!

The ceremony was located in the theatre on stage complete with a rose ceremony to tie in the theme — even some Beauties & the Beast themselves made an appearance! We had PINStudios to capture our entire day from start to finish for us to watch for years to come — almost a year later & I STILL cry every time I watch it. We also were lucky enough to have Chris Hintz himself from Pinnacle Productions to keep the dance floor full all night long. Chris & his team also put together a mix of songs for my first dance with my dad & also did a voice over for a surprise for my mom. As if the dance party didn’t keep the guests entertained we also had a mirror photo booth provided by Pinnacle Productions which made great favors for guests to take home! My husband & I also had our very own favor to take home by having Jillian Artistry there to capture our first dance through a LIVE painting that our guests got to watch throughout the night.

Our day was amazing but also had plenty of bumps from our ring bearer only making it halfway down the aisle, our best man dropping my ring during the middle of the ceremony, our chocolate fountain running out of chocolate, & our wedding, in the middle of January, with zero snow & 50 degrees. None of those small things mattered because at the end of the day, all of our close friends & family were in the same place celebrating us & I got to marry my best friend. Our hearts were full then & still continue to grow fuller to this day!

What I Learned From My First Wedding

I’ve loved weddings for a long time, but it wasn’t until I started my marketing internship this fall that I learned just how much goes into planning a wedding! On November 17th I got to tag along on a gorgeous wedding and see all of the months of hard work come together. There were so many things I learned about weddings that day, but I narrowed the list down to the top five things I found most important!

1. Your planner is your best friend.

No matter how much planning has gone into this day, when the morning of your wedding comes along, there will be quite a bit of stress! Joy, excitement, and love as well, but stress is usually the most pressing. This is where having that planner, or day-of-coordinator, comes in so handy! They take care of everything. As soon as the day starts they’re decorating, directing vendors and people involved in the wedding, they’re at the ceremony making sure the bride gets down the aisle, and they’re at the reception making sure not a single detail is missed. Having that person to take care of any issues that may arise, and handle all of the last minute details takes so much stress off of the couple and their families! Having a planner is easily one of the best investments for your dream wedding.

2. Organization is key.

This one seems pretty simple, but it can be the downfall of anybody’s day if not taken seriously. Staying organized, through the entire planning process and especially during the morning of the wedding, can save a lot of stress in the long run. Having one place for all of the details and making sure everyone is on the same page helps the day run as smoothly as possible! This is another area where having a wedding planner makes a big difference. Did you remember to double-check that the seating chart matches the place cards? Maybe not, but your planner did. And she brought back-up cards just in case.

3. Remember to eat & stay hydrated.

Usually the bride and groom are first to get their food at the reception, but what about breakfast and lunch? Sometimes those jitters get the best of you and suddenly it’s 3 p.m. and you haven’t eaten anything! Having small snacks to carry around with you or having food delivered while you’re getting ready will help make sure you’re not neglecting yourself (or your bridesmaids). Staying hydrated is also incredibly important! Just make sure you use the restroom before you get into your dress.

4. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

There’s a chance of rain even though the weather report said it’d be a nice day? Rain on your wedding day is actually a sign of good luck! Your sister forgot to put in her earrings before getting to the ceremony? Chances are no one will notice. All of your incredible friends and family traveled near and far to see you and your best friend tie the knot, the small details won’t dampen their happiness so don’t let it ruin yours! This is another area where having a planner to resolve those issues, or even just to help you see the bigger picture, really makes the day go by much easier.

5. Stay relaxed & enjoy the day!

While this is arguably one of the most stressful days of anyone’s life, it’s important to remember the reason everyone is there. All of the months, or maybe even years, of hard work all came together so two people could celebrate their beautiful love together. As long as the bride makes it down the aisle and they both say ‘I do’, everything else doesn’t matter. So stay relaxed, remember why you’re there, and enjoy the greatest day ever!

This gorgeous winter day began with the bridal party getting all dolled up at the Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Sioux Falls! Landon Blow and Amanda Black did the hair and makeup for the party while Bombshell Beauty did the bride’s makeup.

Next came the couple’s first look on the Riverwalk where Alex got to see Gabby in her stunning gown! Dan Thorson was the couple’s photographer and he was there to capture every perfect moment!

Then came time for the ceremony held at The Cathedral of St. Joseph! It was an incredible background for Alex & Gabby’s first kiss as husband and wife!

After the ceremony, guests headed to the Hilton Garden Inn to enjoy the reception! Their delicious meal was provided by an in-house caterer, and the Cake Lady created the gorgeous set of cakes for the dessert table! Queen City bakery provided an array of delicious desserts. Joyce Naber put together all of the eclectic flower and table arrangements.

After the delicious meal, toasts, and first dance, guests were able to enjoy the party while the live band, R Factor, kept everybody on their feet all night! DJ Jer put his amazing lighting skills to work as he lit up the entire ballroom for the night!

The day Alyson married her best friend, Drew!

This beautiful day started off at Alyson’s house where the bridal party got ready! Platinum Imagination took care of Alyson while the rest of the bridal party had their hair and makeup done by Shelon Artistry.

Next came the beautiful ceremony held at St. Michael’s Parish! Their photographer, Jeff Sampson, captured every detail of Drew & Alyson’s day.

After the ceremony, guests arrived at the Country Club of Sioux Falls for the reception! Flower Mill provided the beautiful flower arrangements and mismatched centerpieces. Savvy Chair Covers provided the ivory chair covers and Ideal Wedding & Events provided grey napkins & chargers for the tables. Amber’s Cake Balls provided the delicious cake balls and the beautiful cake was done by the Country Club.

After dinner, guests enjoyed toasts from the bridal party and the couple’s first dance as well as the father/daughter & mother/son dances! Wholly Cowen provided the videography for the day so not a single minute was missed. Then DJ Jer kept the party going late into the night!

Alyson & Drew, thank you SO much for letting us be a part of your day! Even though it was rainy, there was nothing but love in the air. Cheers!

The Bullfighter & The Bombshell 

Wow! This wedding was one of a kind! No details were missed and the style of the day was so elegant. From small town South Dakota, this couple wanted to switch it up a bit & I was ALL over that 🙂

The gals started their day at the Clubhouse Hotel getting their hair & makeup done by Shelon Artistry. Greg & LaRea Photography did a stellar job capturing all the details of the day. Copper & Candace had a beautiful Cathedral wedding complete with florals from The Flower Mill.

After they said “I DO” they left in the Stellar Limo Hummer Bus. The reception was held at the District and the room looked incredible! Ideal Wedding & Events did a great job with rentals & draping while DJ JER added lighting enhancements.

How about that cake though!? The Cake Lady did awesome job creating this beauty for Copper & Candace! AJ Productions played a same day edit at the reception for the guests to see the behind the scenes of the big day. Confetti Creative created the most beautiful & unique invitations & paper productions.

The couple & their guests danced the night away to Dustin Evans Band!

The Top 5 Things I Learned as an Event Intern

The Top 5 Things I Learned as an Event Intern
Before my internship working with Serendipitous Events this summer, I had a couple of ideas of what being an event planner would be like. Surely it would involve making a couple or family amazed at how you can transform a space into the wedding of their dreams and going to vendor meetings, but what are some of the things that this job requires that I didn’t think of before I worked my first wedding? Over the summer, I learned that there is a lot of hard work that goes into making dreams become reality. 
Here are the top 5 things I learned on my way to being a better planner!
1. You have to be organized. 
Working in event planner, you need to know every detail of every event going on. What type of flowers are you ordering, what time the caterer will arrive, how are you getting the cocktail tables from Point A to Point B? All of these things have to stay organized, for multiple events at a time. Taking notes is key to making this happen!
2. But you also have to be flexible.
Event with your skills of mastering your timeline and all the little details, there will be times where things will not go to plan. “The world is an imperfect place, screws fall out all the time,” The Breakfast Club. You must be willing to find solutions to the random problems that occur, such as the wedding party taking too long to leave the ceremony or a collar fitting too tightly on a groomsman. You are in charge of making the chaos flow back to normality.
3. You to also be a problem solver.
There are people who see a problem and get flustered, and then there’s us event planners who think of a creative solution for figuring out a solution. Just like planners get their creative juices flowing by planning layouts and table settings and decor for brides, they are just as creative when it comes to engineering solutions to making your wedding or event perfect! Whether that be hanging a picture frame from a bottom of a staircase with wire or getting 12 groomsmen down a staircase safely. Most problems, a good planner is already prepared for because they have experience, but sometimes random things come up an an even better planner can work to fix it on the spot.
4. You have to be able to work long hours.
Corporate or private events sometimes only involve part of your day, but when working as a wedding planner you are typically required to work 10-15 hour days. Without knowing how rewarding and fast-paced those days are, that might seem daunting. Wedding days have been, without a doubt, some of my favorite days of this summer. Watching a bride walk into a venue and cry with adornment and getting thank you’s from the newlyweds in their wedding speeches makes these long hours SO worth it.
5.Finally, you have to be passionate.
Let’s face it, it can be physically and mentally exhausting to be on top of your game at all times. If it weren’t for the passion that I have experienced about this industry and seen from my coworkers, it would be a challenge to get through the days. But something drives us to be engaged and excited to take on each event as if it was our own! At the end of the day, the beauty that comes from a job well done is worth any stressors that come your way.

Talk about a stunning intimate wedding day!

This gorgeous day started off with the
bridal party getting all dolled up out at the Meadow Barn by Shelon Artistry while
they sipped on some mimosas!

It was the little details that made Tim and Erinn’s day so special. Flower Mill added
romantic hues of color through out the venue with their gorgeous flower
arrangements. Ideal Wedding and Events supplied the gold glass chargers and blush
napkins to tie the look together.

Once the vows were all said and done, the sweet sound of music by Christine Egan was enjoyed. Then, it was time to enjoy all things tasty! Chef
Dominique catered the meal along with the table settings. For dessert, The Cake
Lady baked up her finest cupcakes and a stunning two-tier cake for the couple.

Later in the evening, DJ Jer Events and Lighting brought the group to the dance floor
to dance the night away. Anne from the Photography Shoppe was able to capture
timeless photos of the whole event for Tim and Erinn. When all was said and done,
Tim and Erinn lived happily ever after as they drove off in a vintage car from
Vintage Occasions.

The happy couple will always be able to look back on their
wedding day and relive these special moments thanks to their videographer,
Brekan, at Brekan Designs.

The day two lovers united as one!

The day started at Meadow Barn with the girls getting ready in the bridal suite. Hair and makeup was by Lacey Mae Hair and Makeup Artist. Kaylynn with Krush Beauty also did makeup for the bridal party.

Allana with Studiofotografie captured the day with her amazing photos. The videography and paper products were done by the talented Brekan Peterson with Brekan Designs. The Flower Mill did the florals that brought the barn wood tables in the venue to life!

Christine and Ryan Egan did the live music for the ceremony. After the couple said their “I do’s,” the guests enjoyed cocktail hour. Cocktail hour was such a fun time with yard games in the beautiful August weather. Rentals by Ideal Wedding completed the table settings with some finishing touches by Simply Devine and Prairie Lane.

Cake and dessert was by the Cake Lady. Dinner was catered in by Central Catering. Matt at DJ Jer led the evening with music and emceeing. A sparkler send off ended the night as the bridal party was taken on a ride around town with Royal Limo.

Jared and Haley, thank you SO much for letting us be a part of your big day. It was truly a  blast to enjoy the evening with you as you celebrated the love you share. We wish you all the happiness in the world!

Love was in the air as Andrew & Taylor united in marriage!

The ladies started off the day getting ready with Shelon Artistry at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown. They had so much fun getting pampered and enjoying the morning! The couple then had their first look at the Hilton bridge, which Ciji K Photography captured beautifully.

Ciji K Photography did the photos for the entire day and they turned out to be stunning! Florals were by the Flower Mill, from the bouquets to the gorgeous pieces at the reception. Christina Waldner with Infini Films did the videography that captured the day perfectly!

Ceremony rentals were provided by ABC Rentals. The ceremony took place at Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum. The venue looked perfect as the couples said their vows and united in marriage!

While the guests enjoyed cocktail hour, Galileo at Stellar Limo took the wedding party for a spin on the way to the reception venue! The reception took place at the Museum of Visual Materials, which was decorated beautifully with rentals from Ideal Wedding & Events.

Catering was done by Cleaver’s Market and the cake was done by The Cake Lady. Matt from DJ Jer got the party started after everyone had finished their delicious dinner! The night was fun-filled and the guests definitely enjoyed themselves.
